The first snow! Today, for me, it was the first snow of this winter! When I woke up this morning, I thought "Wow X#%&%#, it`s freezing!" And then some time later, the snow began to fall. When I looked out my window and saw the snow, at first I was surprised. I didn`t expect it...but it was beautiful and for some reason, I just smiled :) . Now maybe 2 hours has passed, and it is still snowing. I wonder how long it will snow for today?!? Maybe the snow will even stick (and if it does some companies will get out early and some employees will be very happy to begin an early 3-day weekend..;) Before, the snow flakes were pretty big...they looked fluffy like cotton candy! It might even be a white Christmas in Osaka...

Last night, again ;), I went to another party.
My student, Ms. N, sent me these pics from Kobe. She went to the "Festival of Winter Lights". I have never been there but it is famous and I want to go once. I heard it is really beautiful. On the other hand, I heard it is very crowded and cold... There is also a cool Christmas tree and lights in front of the City office in Yodoyabashi. If Kobe is too far for you, I recommend the Yodoyabashi lights. It`s much smaller and really not big, but it has a nice atmosphere and a good "feeling". It`s definitely the Christmas season and pretty soon Santa is gonna be coming to town. I wonder if I will run into him somewhere.......

Dressed in a body-hugging maroon top with red sequins on the sleeves and matching pants, Madonna said she was glad to be back in Japan, a place that has had a significant influence on her life and her work, particularly in this current album.
"Sorry," one of the songs on the new album, includes the words "gomen nasai" -- Japanese for "I'm sorry" -- which Madonna said she learned from her Japanese cook, who travels with her.
"I've always been very interested in Japanese culture," she said.
"Some of my videos, some of my performances on stage have been inspired by Japanese cinema, martial arts, Japanese music, Japanese fashion, Japanese food," she added.
Asked how she kept in shape -- a form showed off to good advantage in the video for the hit single "Hung Up," which features strenuous dancing -- Madonna indicated that Japanese food played a large part in her healthy lifestyle.
"I love Japanese food. I have a Japanese cook in London that travels everywhere with me," she said, laughing. "I probably eat more Japanese food than you do."

NEW BORN BABY!
One of my students, Ms. Y, just became a grandmother! Congratulations!!! It`s her first grandchild!! A boy or a girl? I think that she will be a great grandmother...And I learned something from another student yesterday...That student is Chinese, and she told me that "In China, when a baby is born, the baby is 1 years old." In America, when a baby is born, the baby is 0 years old...So that student and I were birth born in the same year, 1974, and her birthday is in April, and mine is in October. But she said she was 32, and I said I was 31, but really we are the same age...interesting....funny...strange...

KIMBERLEY the cat
My student, Ms. A, sent me this picture of her baby cat. She found it in a park 2 weeks ago. It was alone and very small and thin and she looked weak. Maybe the kitten was about 2 months old she thought. And she took it home and named it Kimberley. Now, when Ms. A takes a nap on the sofa, Kimberley comes over and sleeps in her hair. What would you do if you found a cat or dog?

The other day I went to YOSHIMOTO and saw some manzai comedy groups and also a comedy play. It was great. At Yoshimoto, they say, "Laughter can change Japan" and "Laughter is healthy"...I think they are right! Because laughing can change you, and you can change things around you! Do you have any funny stories to tell?
Also, Takahashi (Q-chan) was really great in the Tokyo marathon. Honestly, I didn`t think that she could do it. She failed at the Tokyo marathon 2 years ago, she changed coaches, she was injured, and she`s not young for a runner, but she just kept running...and she won! I ran the Fukuchiyama Marathon about 9 years ago and finished in 3 hours and 35 minutes. Believe me, a full marathon is not an easy accomplishment! Q-chan did a great job, and she did it with a smile, and she also made a lot of people smile!!! She is really something else!!! :)

I would like to congratulate two of my students!
First to Ms. H: Congrats on passing the "Teacher`s" Test! and becoming a Home Room teacher (all in the same week!) I know that you really studied hard and were very nervous and I am happy that you could make your dream your reality! From now, GOOD LUCK with those kids! :)
Next, I would like to congratulate Mr. T for doing an unbelievable job on the TOEIC test!!! He got over 900..that`s right, over 900!!! You deserved this score because you really study hard and make a solid effort all the time, every class! Well done!!

Today I got my haircut. I go to a place called CUT SURGE in Honmachi. It`s only 1000 yen. Men and women can both go there, and I know what you are thinking, "1000 yen?! it`s gotta be a small, dirty place, and the haircutters can`t be good..." But on the contrary, actually it is very new and clean, and the staff is very friendly and are very professional! I used to shave my head by myself but now I go there about twice a month because it`s convenient, they do a good job, and I like to talk to the owner and staff. For any of you looking for a new or good hair cut place, lemme know and I will tell you where it is. I recommend it!
ABC RADIO
Every day I listen to ABC radio in my office when I am not teaching. It`s mostly an Osakan talk radio station...sometimes it`s pretty funny. I prefer listening to people talk rather than listening to music all day. I don`t know why, but I can relax more and it`s more interesting listening to talk radio. Anyway, sometimes they actually do play a few songs, and a few minutes ago they played a new song "ALWAYS" by the band B-51. I can`t explain it, but sometimes one song can just change your mood or change your day. Also the timing of when you listen to it. Well, this song kinda changed my mood and made me smile...Thank you (always) ABC RADIO and also B-51 for the cool song.

It has been about a week since I wrote last. I wanted to write a few times last week but I just got caught up in stuff and couldn`t...Anyway, i was thinking about SCORES recently. One of my students, Mr. a, went bowling the other day. He got a 70! That`s right, that`s not a typo...a 70!!! I am not so good at bowling either, I usually get somewhere between 100 and 150, my best score is a 190, maybe ;), once in my life! But Mr. a said "I couldn`t be upset, so I just laughed." "a bowling SCORE IS NOT IMPORTANT!! but HAVING FUN in bowling IS IMPORTANT", I told him. My favorite Japanese poet is Aida Mitsuo. In one of his poems he said something like "People are not scores..."
On another note, I also like American football. My football team is the Philadelphia Eagles. Last year they had a very strong team, but this year is another story. They are playing a game against the Washington Redskins in America as I write this now...it`s halftime, and The SCORE is 10-7. The Birds are losing...
Tuesday, November 1
I just finished having "Morning" breakfast with my friend Mr. O. Usually I don`t eat breakfast but every once in a while I like to get a typical "morning" set at some small coffee shop...just good coffee, some toast, and a hard-boiled egg. Simple, but good. And satisfying! If I go by myself, I enjoy reading the neswpaper while I eat. But if I go with a friend, then I enjoy the conversation. Today, as usual, I didn`t talk about anything special with Mr. O...baseball, golf, his sick friend, his karaoke friends, some small life changes, baseball again ;) Basic stuff, just basic stuff... it was a good way to begin the morning.
Saturday, October 29
Last night I went to my favorite Izakaya, ECHIGOYA. It`s in shinsabashi near the famous ramen shop "ippudo." I began going there about 4 years ago because I became friends with the Master in a sauna. (We both used to go to Shimizuyu, a bath house near OPA, a lot...i love bath houses, hot springs, and saunas...) The food is really good there and I also enjoy talking to the Master and Mama. I went there to meet a friend who works for Yoshimoto, Mr. A. He is a really interesting guy and he speaks VERY fast in his unique osaka-dialect. He`s funny and makes me laugh. I also enjoy Yoshimoto shows and comedians a lot. I have been to the head office a few times too. The "GOOD MORNING" greetings that people do there are impressive! Today it looks like it`s gonna rain all day...

I have tickets to go to Game 5 of the Japan Series...but it is looking very bleak! I love the Tigers and I really wanted to just be able to go and see a Japan Series game. I asked a friend of mine to get tickets, and he said "No problem!" He came through for me, and even gave me a choice. "Do you want tickets to Game 3, 4, or 5?" I said, "5". I was greedy I guess. I thought maybe there would be a chance to see Okada being thrown in the air...I didn`t foresee this though...three games, 10-0, 10-1, 10-1...unbelievable. I haven`t been to the shrine near my office lately, but I think that I am going to go today. one last prayer...

(THIS IS AN EMAIL FROM ONE OF MY STUDENTS)
I really surprised about terrorist strike by suicide bomb in Bali.
I know the restaurant in Kuta and I eat lunch there 3 times.
It was very nice restaurant and staffs were very friendly.
I feel awfully sorry about the innocent victims.
Recently, I’m afraid about terror-attack in Japan…I have to do anytime what I want.
If I will be die by terror, I won’t be regret in my life…
