Short cake is also called "short bread" is made from shortening(ex.butter, lard) and has a light texture."Short" has a meaning of crumbly .So it is considered one theory of origin of a word "shortcake" In Japan, the first shortcake was created by Mr.Fujii he was a founder of"Fujiya" (famous confectionary maker in Japan, has "Peko-chan" brand)He improved shorcake using for sponge-type cake in order to match it toJapanese taste. So in other countries, they call a cake that biscuit sandwiches strawbelliesor other fruits and put cream on the top as "shortcake"but in Japan we call Fujiya's style cake as "shortcake" Please check it out!
